Paving brings overnight closure to Concession Street Bridge in Cambridge

By CityNews Kitchener staff

The Region of Waterloo is giving advanced warning to motorists in Cambridge of the closure of a major roadway.

Regional staff have completed repairs on watermain along the Concession Street Bridge that was damaged by flooding and ice debris back in 2018.

With that work complete, final restoration will require a full closure of the Concession Street Bridge for overnight asphalt paving.

Original plans for that work would have closed a portion of Concession Street on Oct. 13, though rain-related issues delayed the work to Oct. 16.

As a result, Concession Street will be closed between Grand Avenue South and Water Street South on Oct. 16 beginning at 8 p.m.

The impacted bridge is expected to reopen on Tuesday at 5 a.m.

The region notes that a full overnight bridge closure allows enhanced worker safety with minimal traffic disruptions, while also assisting in ensuring a “quality final surface.”
