Region reminds residents to reduce water use as heat wave continues

Waterloo Region is reminding the community to follow the Water-Conservation By-Law as hot weather continues.

The by-law took effect on Wednesday and aims to preserve the region’s water supply when there is a fire or drought.

Residents are asked to only use outdoor water when needed, and only on their designated water day.

It’s also possible that some people will have less water pressure at home. That is because of the extra demand on water pumps.

Splash pads remain open around the region as spots where individuals can cool off.

The region will continue to monitor conditions and decide whether any additional restrictions are needed in the coming days.

The Water Conservation By-Law is in effect until September 30. The region says before it was put into place, water use would increase by as much as 50 per cent during the summer.
