Multiple local names make annual sunshine list

On Friday, the provinces annual sunshine list was released containing the names of nearly 267,000 public sector employees making more than $100,000 in 2022.
Locally in Waterloo Region the highest paid public employee was Robert Myers, the director of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, who earned $536,767.65.
In terms of education, Waterloo Region District School Board Director of Education jeewan chanicka made $235,199.88 and Waterloo Catholic District School Board Director Tyrone Dowling was paid $109,785.37.
The highest paid member of the WRDSB was former superintendent Matthew Gerard – making $248,103.94 in 2022.
The Chief Financial Officer at the WCDSB was Shesh Maharaj earning $204,134.70.
Looking at post-secondary education, Deborah MacLatchy president at Wilfrid Laurier University made $363,000.04, Conestoga College President John Tibbits made the list at $409,900.00 and University of Waterloo President Vivek Goel made an impressive earning of $473,446.56 – an identical salary to that of the former President Feridun Hamdullahpur.
For policing, both the former and current chief made the list.
Bryan Larkin earned $305,187.73 and current chief Mark Crowell made $245,461.81.
In the tech sector, Communitech’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Chris Albinson was paid $294,750.03.
In municipal government, the Mayor of Kitchener Berry Vrbanovic barely made the list at $108,993.33, Regional Chair Karen Redman earned nearly double that at $184,793.45 and former Cambridge mayor Kathryn McGarry earned just enough to make the list at $100,650.85.
In healthcare, Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang the regional medical officer of health's salary totalled $309,139.77.
For the regions hospitals Ron Gagnon, the president and chief executive officer of Grand River Hospital, made $457,601.23.
Pathologist Jacqueline Bourgeois at Cambridge Memorial Hospital earned $371,745.07, and Winnie Chan of St. Mary’s General Hospital made $312,722.12 last year.
