Death threats lodged against Regional Chair, her family

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Waterloo Regional Police announced earlier this week that they were notified on March 12 that a local elected official had received death threats, and a 33-year-old Kitchener man was charged the next day.

A court document obtained by CityNews 570 shows the death threats were directed at Regional Chair Karen Redman and her family.

The alleged threat was sent via email, according to the documentation.

The accused is named Gersame Fikre Ambaw and he has been charged with uttering threats and criminal harassment.

His next court date is set for March 30.

This comes after a similar investigation early last month that saw death threats made online against Kitchener-Conestoga MP Tim Louis. A 44-year-old Woolwich man was charged in that investigation.
