With children on holiday break for another week, the Idea Exchange is aiming to help keep them busy and aid in continuous learning with their annual winter carnival from Dec. 28 to Jan. 6.
Drop-in programming will be available every day at each location throughout the city. It’s all part of the Idea Exchange's commitment to the community.
“When there is a break in the school schedule, our staff works to have extra activities available for local families,” Brandon Kidd, youth services librarian said.
“We started calling our children’s programming over the winter break “Winter Carnival” last year. We offer similar Stay and Play style activities throughout the year at our locations.”
Children can expect a hands-on, fun experience.
Various stations will be set up throughout the week with activities including crafts, scavenger hunts, games, puzzles and more.

“We have activities for every child, from toddlers to grade schoolers every day,” Kidd said.
“There will be a variety of learning activities, many with a STEAM focus. Children can learn creative thinking, reading, coding, math and other skills.”
When children head back to school after the break, Kidd and the Idea Exchange staff hope they’ve learned something and had an opportunity to explore a new interest.
“It’s a free activity that community members can attend while school is out, a chance to continue educational experiences and have fun,” he said.
“It’s also a chance for them to learn more about our services and collections while meeting our helpful staff. We strive every day to provide a warm, welcoming place where families can learn, explore and create together while also connecting with other local families.”
