Kitchener proposing tax increase of 4.8 per cent

The City of Kitchener has released its proposed 2023 budget.
The city says it includes a plan to support core services, respond to growth and make investments, while keeping the property tax rate increase below the rate of inflation.
“As we begin the budget process for our new term, it is important that the 2023 budget strikes a balance between the priorities important to our community while also recognizing the affordability challenges being experienced by many in our community. I’m happy to see that the proposed 2023 budget does just that by accounting for those needs while staying well below the inflation rate,” Mayor Berry Vrbanovic said in a news release.
The proposed property tax increase is 4.8 per cent. It would mean the average homeowner would have to fork over an additional $56 annually.
Water utilities could increase by 4.5 per cent.

A public input session will be held Monday, January 9. The budget will be approved at a meeting on February 2.
