Region of Waterloo Public Health reports four new COVID-related deaths

***Editor's note: The health department points out that due to changes in testing availability, case counts on its dashboard are an underestimate of the true number of individuals with COVID-19 in Waterloo Region. Local data is being provided on Fridays***

Four new COVID-related deaths were confirmed by Region of Waterloo Public Health in the latest update, released Friday afternoon.

As a result, the local death toll is now 484. 

“Today we are reporting four COVID-related deaths in the community. The individuals were two males in their 90s, a female in her 90s, and a male in his 70s. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the families of these individuals,” said Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, Medical Officer of Health.

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 have increased since the last update. There are currently 63 patients hospitalized, an increase of 20 cases since last week.  There are seven patients in intensive care with COVID.

288 new cases were also confirmed Friday, putting the overall total at 52, 596.

The active caseload is up by 4 since the last update to 345.
