Berry Vrbanovic will be seeking a third term as mayor of Kitchener this fall.
Vrbanovic made the announcement on The Mike Farwell Show on CityNews 570 on Friday morning.
“My love for this community, and for serving the residents of our community has never been stronger. The passion and energy is there.” he said.
He added given the complex issues the city is facing, including homelessness, mental health and climate change — will require an experienced leader.
“They are issues that not only require, not only an experienced voice in the chair, but more importantly a voice that has been able to build some strong relationships that have served our community well with the provincial and federal governments … we're going to require that even more going forward.”
Launching an equity, diversity and inclusion strategy, Housing For All strategy, an updated economic development strategy, and moving the city's neighbourhood strategy forward — were all items he mentioned he was proud to move forward in his current term.
Vrbanovic, who has been mayor since 2014, plans to file his official nomination papers on Friday. So far, he's not facing any challengers.
The municipal election is set for Monday, October 24.
