Police find human remains in the Grand River in Cambridge (update)

By Joe McGinty

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating after a body was found in the Grand River shortly before noon near a trail at the base of Augusta Street.

Police confirmed the body was a deceased male and said they're not considering the death suspicious at this time.

The witness who called police described what they found as a “snagged body, caught on the riverbank.”

The caller told CambridgeToday, that police showed up around noon and by 12:15 p.m. the area had been taped off.

Residents who live in the area say they were shaken up by the incident, but didn't want to comment on record.

Many watched as police conducted their investigation, including a police dive team.

WRPS said in a post on Twitter that there will be an increased police presence in the area of the Delta intersection for much of the afternoon.

Police urged everyone to avoid the area near the river.
