Stabbing incident in Waterloo now homicide investigation (update)

A 15-year-old female is dead following a stabbing on Chelford Crescent in Waterloo on Thursday morning.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries but police announced in the afternoon she has died, and the case is now being treated as a homicide.
A male was also arrested.
Police provided more details at a news conference on Thursday afternoon.
They responded to a residence on Chelford around 10 a.m. after receiving reports that one person was injured and another had been stabbed.
Waterloo Regional Police Superintendent Eugene Fenton said that is when the victim was located. An 18-year-old male was also found within the residence with self-inflicted wounds. He was taken to a hospital outside of the region and requires surgery.
The male has also been arrested for first-degree murder.
Fenton also said the accused and victim are related. No further specifics were provided but both resided in the residence.
Police will be at the scene for several hours, and Friday as well. They also plan on speaking with neighbours.
