Wilfrid Laurier University has issued a message to students ahead of St. Patrick's Day.
While it's been quiet on Ezra Avenue the past two years due to the pandemic, the street is usually the backdrop for a large unsanctioned party.
In a post on social media on Thursday, Laurier said it's actively discouraging unlawful gatherings and has some reminders for anyone looking to break the rules.
The university said there will be parking restrictions, enhanced security personnel, and a no-guest policy in residences.
Chief Bryan Larkin said Wednesday that regional police have plans in place regarding St. Patrick's Day celebrations, but police won't be releasing operational details ahead of time.
A safety information message was also posted to Laurier's website on Friday which read in part, “Wilfrid Laurier University does not organize or condone large off-campus activities that interfere with law and order in the community.”
It noted that Waterloo Regional Police will be patrolling the area on foot, in cruisers, and on bikes. There will also be RIDE programs on March 17 and those caught consuming alcohol in public areas could be ticketed.
Laurier also encouraged students to stay home March 17 if they're feeling sick and keep crowds small to reduce the risk for spreading COVID-19.
