Election signs banned on regional roads

As candidates clean up the last of the election signs from this past federal election, it will be the last where political hopefuls can post their signs on the side of regionally-owned roadways in Waterloo Region.
Regional council passed a motion Wednesday night, prohibiting the posting of election signs on the side of said roadways.
The motion was put forward and carried during last week's Committee of the Whole meeting.
Council noted concerns for the landfill, a liability to the region itself, as well as staff time, an unfair advantage to incumbents, the use of publically owned land and significant challenge for marginalized and racialized groups.
The official bylaw goes into effect in January.
This is ahead of two scheduled elections in 2022, at both the municipal and provincial level in Ontario.
