Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:
- Guelph – Erin – Southern Wellington County
- Kitchener – Cambridge – Region of Waterloo
- Mount Forest – Arthur – Northern Wellington County
Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and torrential rain.
A few slow moving thunderstorms may produce heavy downpours with local amounts in excess of 50 millimetres within an hour through this afternoon and early evening period.
Rapidly rising rivers and creeks can sweep away bridges, culverts, buildings, and people. Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
