Kitchener starting to reopen indoor pools, recreation facilities

Following the province of Ontario’s move into Step 3 of its Roadmap to Reopen, the City of Kitchener is beginning to reopen indoor sports and recreation options for residents to enjoy. Visitors are encouraged to visit the city’s website to learn about registration details and health and safety protocols. 

Indoor pools: 

Beginning today, Breithaupt Centre, Forest Heights and Lyle Hallman pools are opening for lane swimming, Aquafitness, family swims, some group lessons and private lessons, and leadership courses. Pre-registration is required before visiting. Please visit us online or contact the specific pool for details.  

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and school closures, Cameron Heights Pool remains closed at this time. 

Indoor recreation facilities: 

  • Activa Sportsplex is open for free, pre-registered walking track use and sports groups ice rentals. 
  • Community centres remain open for summer camps, youth programming, seniors day programming, and emergency social services.  
  • Breithaupt indoor gym will open for leisure programming on Aug. 3 

Outdoor recreation  facilities: 

  • Programming at outdoor fields and diamonds has resumed. Outdoor courts remain open. Please follow posted signage for capacity limits and other health and safety protocols. The province requires face coverings  for everyone indoors and for outdoor sports spectators (with some exceptions). 

  • Outdoor pools remain open with increased capacity for aqua fitness and lane swims.
