It's a big relief for many parents across Waterloo Region who will — starting today — finally have the option to take their kids to a splash pad.
Officials from the City of Kitchener say only a select number of splash pads will be reopening across the city.
Only five splash pads across the city will be opening up today:
- Breithaupt Park, 806 Union Street
- Centreville Chicopee, 141 Morgan Avenue
- Chandler Mowat, 222 Chandler Drive
- Doon Pioneer Park, 150 Pioneer Drive
- Kingsdale, 78 Wilson Avenue
City officials say eligible splash pads will remain open everyday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Staff will not be sanitizing the play areas, but they will be regularly visiting for general checks.
All visitors must follow posted signage and follow public health guidelines, which includes physical distancing and hand sanitization.
The city of Waterloo's splash pad, located in Waterloo Park, is scheduled to reopen on June 5, pending some maintenance work. There is also a new splash pad being built at Albert McCormick Community Centre.
Meantime, splash pads are planned to open on June 11 in Cambridge, however, staff are looking to see if they can open a few days earlier.
