Region reports 121 new COVID cases Tuesday

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported 121 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. A case count has not been in the triple digits since January 22. 106 of the cases are from Monday, the rest were added to previous daily totals.

It raises the total number of cases to 12,825.

Hospitalizations rose by six to 30, with 12 patients now being treated for the virus in intensive care.

The active caseload has also climbed to 592.

Here are some other updates from the region's dashboard:

  • 119,986 doses of the COVID vaccine have been administered — 15,606 people in the region have been fully vaccinated (2.65 per cent)
  • 858 cases have screened positive for variants of concern – 40 are the U.K. strain – lineage to the other 818 has not been determined yet
  • No new deaths reported. The local death toll is at 245
  • 11,973 resolved cases (93 per cent)
  • Over 443,000 tests have been done

There are currently 16 active outbreaks in the region:

  • NEW St. Mary's General Hospital – 4th floor
  • NEW Highland Public School (three cases)
  • NEW General office setting 9 (two cases)
  • Elite Day Care 2 (two cases)
  • Congregate setting 35 (four cases)
  • Waterloo Collegiate Institute (two cases)
  • Food and beverage services 14 (three cases)
  • YMCA Brigadoon Child Care (five cases)
  • Trades and related services 9 (two cases)
  • Food processing 8 (two cases)
  • St. Luke Catholic Elementary School (two cases)
  • Place of Worship 4 (two cases)
  • Elite Day Care (five cases)
  • Holy Rosary Catholic Elementary School 3 (two cases)
  • Health (optometrist) 2 (three cases)
  • Manufacturing/industrial 31 (seven cases)

Meantime, the province reported 3,670 cases Tuesday.

  • 335,262 vaccinations have been completed
  • 394,679 total cases

  • 1,822 people are in hospital – 626 are in intensive care – 422 are on a ventilator
