Kitchener mayor delivers ‘not your typical’ State of the City

Not what you'd expect in a State of the City address.
But then again, it's been an unprecedented year.
Instead of highlighting city accomplishments, Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic chose to put the spotlight on community members who got us through the last year amid the pandemic.
“We haven't had a global pandemic like this in over a century,” he told 570 NEWS.
“We have lots of opportunities to talk about the great work that's going on at the city. But we thought that really what the community needed right now was an uplifting, hopeful speech to get us through the remaining months of the pandemic, and to celebrate what we've achieved together over the past year.”
The address lasted about 15 minutes, before a video was played with comments from community members far and wide, about how the pandemic has impacted them.
And as Vrbanovic touched on the importance of the arts and culture sector, the address finished with a virtual performance from KW Glee, an original song titled “We Got This.”

Nothing can replace singing together in person, but virtual choir video recordings like this offer us some way of staying connected. Thanks for listening to “We Got This”! Please share!https://t.co/YJc4C79MtO
