Region reports 164 new COVID cases, four more deaths on Monday

Region of Waterloo Public Health confirmed 164 new coronavirus cases on Monday afternoon, plus four more COVID-related deaths.

It means there have been 7,503 cases here since March.

Two of the four deaths have been linked to outbreaks – one at Highland Place retirement home, the other at The Village of Winston Park retirement home – which puts the local death toll at 179.

It comes a day after the region hit a daily high for cases at 203 were reported on Sunday.

Here are some other updates from the region's COVID summary dashboard on Monday:

  • 27 people are being treated in hospital, 13 are in intensive care
  • 1,048 active cases
  • 6,268 resolved cases (84 per cent)
  • Over 284,000 tests have been done (numbers will be updated again on Tuesday)

There are currently 35 outbreaks in the region:

  • NEW Chartwell Elmira retirement residence (three cases in residents)
  • NEW Chartwell Clair Hills retirement residence (one case in staff)
  • The Village of University Gates retirement home (one case in staff)
  • Chartwell Bankside retirement (one case in a resident, one case in staff)
  • St. Andrew's Terrace long-term care (two cases in residents, two cases in staff)
  • The Village at Winston Park long-term care (three cases in staff)
  • Sunnyside long-term care (Pioneer Tower) – (two cases in staff)
  • The Village at University Gates (Wright Unit – (three cases in staff)
  • Highland Place retirement home (six cases in residents, three in staff, one death)
  • Columbia Forest long-term care (five cases in staff)
  • Briarfield retirement residence (third floor) – (one case in a resident, two in staff)
  • PeopleCare Hilltop Manor (two cases in staff)
  • Chartwell Westmount long-term care (19 cases in residents, 15 in staff, one death)
  • Forest Heights long-term care (four cases in staff)
  • Cambridge Country Manor (60 cases in residents, 68 in staff, 16 deaths)
  • The Village of Winston Park retirement home (25 cases in residents, 28 in staff, six deaths)
  • NEW Congregate setting 20 (one case)
  • NEW Congregate setting 19 (one case)
  • Congregate setting 17 (eight cases)
  • Congregate setting 16 (one case)
  • Congregate setting 18 (12 cases)
  • Congregate setting 15 (19 cases)

  • Food and beverages services 12 (two cases)
  • Waterloo Regional Police – North Division (three cases)
  • Manufacturing/industrial 20 (two cases)
