A positive story to come out the COVID-19 pandemic.
Starting Wednesday, March 18, Zehrs will be dedicating the first hour of business to seniors (7 to 8 a.m.).
The stores will be cleaned and sanitized to allow those, who are most at risk to contracting coronavirus, to get the supplies they need in a less crowded, and stress free environment.
“So … they can bring their caretakers … A lot of seniors have their children, come in and bring them, so they can come in too, that's fine. We're sure it will help a lot, because there's been a lot of stress with seniors, lately.” said Tressa Oake, Assistant Store Manager at the Pioneer Park Zehrs in Kitchener.
Oake tells KitchenerToday.com they will have staff at the door, making sure only seniors – and those vulnerable to COVID-19 – only get into the store during that hour.
As well, the store will limit the number of people that can be in the store at any given time.
Despite store shelves being depleted, Oake said, for the most part, people are behaving themselves.
“There's a few people … they're not too impressed with how we don't have too much stock, but it's just because we're getting wiped. Our warehouse isn't even able to keep up, with the fact that all the stores are fighting over the same products. So far, it's been pretty good.”
Like many other stores, Pioneer Park Zehrs is currently out of toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes.
Shoppers Drug Mart is also making a similar move, at select stores, starting this week.
The first hour of shopping will be dedicated to seniors, as well as those living with disabilities.
You are being advised to call your store beforehand, to see if they're participating.
