Kitchener looking for feedback on making Gaukel St. more pedestrian friendly

By Blair Adams

The City of Kitchener wants to hear from residents about making Gaukel Street a pedestrian-oriented street.

You're being asked to fill out an online survey.

It asks how you'd like to see the street function and what type of amenities can enhance Gaukel as a pedestrian and public space street.

A group of residents first proposed the idea in February 2019, after observing the closure of the street for construction.

To test it out, they hosted a pop-up park in September.

The first phase of the project, expected to be completed this summer, will transform Joseph to Charles to a pedestrian and public space, available for informal use and public programming.

Council set aside $236,000 in the 2020 budget for the project.
