It's not hard to pick up on the enthusiasm in Jenna Walker's voice.
“Holy moly, we are so excited!” she said when referring to this week's show in Kitchener.
Jenna Walker and her brother, Stuart, are The Reklaws, a Canadian country band that is getting their due.
In the fall, the Cambridge natives, took home the Rising Star award at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards. They're also nominated for Country Album of the Year for their debut record “Feels Like That” at the Juno's in March.
On Thursday night, The Reklaws will take the stage at Dallas Nightclub and, like one of their songs, really get to be the “Hometown Kids” as part of their “Winter's A Beach” tour.
“We can't wait because it will feel so good to be on that stage and have the people we know around us,” said Jenna.
While they're now based out of Toronto, the Walker's still visit Cambridge a lot, as their family still continues to call the area home. “It's the biggest compliment you could ever ask for … when the town you grew up with, gets behind you and supports what you believe in. It's pretty awesome.”
If you're going to the show Thursday, The Reklaws want to you to keep with the theme and dress in your best beach attire.
“We're just going to put on the best show that we can. We have a good time with the crowd … we bring a party, a good time, we bring laughs … Just something that they'll remember for a long time, so hopefully we can do that Thursday night with the people that we love. That should be one of the best shows … one we're really looking forward to.” said Jenna.
She says it's great their music is getting some recognition, as they have been “grinding” at this for seven years. “I think we're just trying to completely live in this moment, enjoy it, because who knows what can happen in a year from now. We get that question a lot – 'What are you going to do? You've already been nominated for a Juno' … It's awesome and we hope to continue to reach to bigger and higher things … We are completely humbled by all of it,”
Their mom gets credit for coming up with band's name, Reklaw is Walker backwards.
