Hack the North to host fifth annual hackathon this weekend

Canada's biggest hackathon, Hack the North, gets underway this weekend.
The fifth annual event runs Friday, September 14, until Sunday, September 16.
1,000 students from top universities across the world will come together to collaborate and create tech projects at the University of Waterloo.
Students from over 20 countries will be participating including USA, Brazil, Sweden, England, China, India, and Algeria, and come from over 200 schools including Stanford University, University of Hong Kong, and University of British Columbia.
Attendees were selected from a pool of 7,500 applications.
During the event, students will receive mentorship from professional engineers at some of the largest tech companies including Google, Facebook, Shopify, and Microsoft.
CEO and Founder of Social Capital, Chamath Palihapitiya, will deliver the keynote speech during opening ceremonies at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14.
As part of a special demonstration, a CH-146 Griffon helicopter from the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command will be landing on Campus Saturday morning.
You might catch a glimpse between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 am.
On Sunday, over 250 student teams will reveal their software or hardware creations to industry experts including Jay Shah, Director of Velocity, Dylan Field, CEO and founder of Figma, and Jen Dewalt, Founder of Zube.
