September home sales slump in Waterloo Region compared to this time last year

The temperatures weren’t the only thing that cooled down in September, so did the housing market in Waterloo Region.

The Kitchener-Waterloo Association of Realtors says 470 residential properties were sold last month. It might seem like a lot, but it’s actually a 13% decrease from September, 2016.

The good news is the numbers still show a five-year increase in September sales.

KWAR President James Craig tells 570 NEWS, our region’s housing market is still a hot one. “These are great numbers, especially with the five-year increase in September sales.”

Craig adds the issue the region faces right now is supply and demand. “There’s just not enough homes for those who want them. And this isn’t a new thing we’re dealing with, this has been happening for years now.”
