Labour Day may mean Labour Unrest

Just days before Labour Day and one of the nation’s biggest unions warns of potential labour unrest in Ontario.

The CAW issued the warning in an effort to convince the premier to back off on plans for a two-year wage freeze.

CAW President Ken Lewenza told 570’s Gary Doyle Show work stoppages can’t be ruled out.

He’s calling for a balanced approach during what he calls “a difficult economic situation” and says the government should allow the bargaining process to play itself out.

Dalton McGuinty wants an estimated 700,000 unionized public sector employees and another 350,000 managers and non-union workers to accept the freeze as the province tries to get a handle on a 19-billion-dollar deficit.
