Kitchener councillors vote to keep Rockway open

It was D-day for Kitchener City Council on Monday as they decided the future of the Rockway Seniors Centre.
Councillors voted unanimously in favour of keeping the centre open and running for the foreseeable future.
After the vote, cheers and clapping broke out from the more than 50 seniors in attendance, many of whom were wearing yellow ” Support Rockway Seniors” t-shirts.
Staff will now report back to council about any maintenance and capital requirements needed in the short-term for the facility and do a feasibility and business case study with public consultation looking at long-term uses for the centre.
