There are over a dozen busy bees across the region, spelling bees that is, that are getting set to compete for their chance to represent at the global level in Washington, D.C.
Seventeen middle school students from across Waterloo Region and the GTA will compete at the fourth annual ECU Scripps Spelling Bee, hosted at the Kitchener Public Library Theatre.
The contestants are top spellers, winning spelling bees at their local elementary schools. They will now get the opportunity to represent their school at the regional stage.
The winner of the bee will receive a $200 educational scholarship and a six-night trip to Washington, D.C. where they will compete against hundreds of students from across the world in May. All participants will also receive full access to special activities during Scripps Bee Week.
The regional competition takes place on Saturday, Mar. 28.
