Special weather statement issued for freezing rain

In a lovely start to March break, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the region, due to the risk of freezing rain.

The authority is calling for possible ice accretion, which will impact roads on what’s been a rough weekend for drivers.

The rain will ease up for the afternoon, but things will get windy with gusts expected up to 70 km/h Sunday night, and upwards of 80 km/h Monday morning.

A small silver lining is that temperatures are expected to climb, reaching 9 C Sunday and up to 11 C Monday.

Rain is expected for Monday as well though, so do keep an umbrella handy.

GRCA has also maintained its flood warning for Brant County, Brantford, Six Nations and Haldimand County, and is issuing a Flood Watch for the remainder of the Grand River watershed.

Warmer temperatures last weekend and rain caused flooding in some areas and water levels have remained high. You’re reminded to stay safe near any bodies of water, as banks near waterways are likely to be very slippery.
