Fraud suspect wanted for preying on immigrants in Kitchener

Police are searching for a fraud suspect they said has been posing as a legitimate immigration lawyer and preying on multiple victims in Kitchener.

Investigators with the Waterloo Regional Police Service opened their case on February 20 after a victim came forward.

Police said the victim started sending payments back in May 2024 to a man who called himself an immigration lawyer, to help with work on a visa application.

They said the victim kept sending payments for legal services until July 2025, but the supposed lawyer never submitted any visa application.

Police now believe the same man, who they believe is not a registered lawyer, might have been involved in two other immigration fraud schemes in Kitchener, between March 2025 and January this year.

A warrant has been issued for 34-year-old Harsharan Ahluwalia from Kitchener.

He’s wanted on three charges each of fraud under $5,000, and what police call “passing off.”

Police are turning to the public for help to find Ahluwalia.

Anyone who knows anything about him is asked to call police at 519-570-9777, or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or by clicking here.
