A 35-year-old man has died following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 401 in Mississauga, provincial police say.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the crash happened near Winston Churchill Boulevard just before 6 a.m. on Friday.
Police initially said it was a multi-vehicle crash but Schmidt said only one vehicle was involved in the collision.
“A pickup truck collided with the crash cushion, the end treatment that separates the express from the collector lanes. That vehicle was then redirected into the express lanes where it came to a rest,” he said.
The driver was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died. Police initially said the man was 36 years old but in a later update said he was 35.
The eastbound express lanes of the highway are closed from approaching Mississauga Road to Mavis Road. The OPP said the area is expected to reopen between noon to 1 p.m.
