Up to 5 mm ice accretion expected in Waterloo Region

It’s going to be a slippery afternoon out and about in Waterloo Region.

A special weather statement that was put into effect this morning has now been upgraded to a freezing rain warning by Environment Canada.

“Some areas will also receive ice pellets making surfaces slippery such as in the Kitchener area,” the weather authority says. “The heaviest freezing rain may remain just south of the Kitchener area.”

Ice accretion of up to 5 mm is anticipated.

Ice build up on roads could make driving dangerous. Pedestrians are advised to take extra precautions to avoid falls.

It’s all part of wintery weather thats expected across all of southern Ontario today.

A special weather statement was issued nearby areas including Peel Region, Halton Region, Hamilton, Niagara Region, with five to 10 cm of snowfall forecasted along with ice pellets.

The daily high is -9 C, feeling like -18 with the windchill.
