Man found hiding in Guelph school after hours

A teacher at an east-end Guelph school made a frightening discovery Tuesday afternoon: a man hiding in a school closet.

According to Guelph police, the teacher found the man around 4:15 p.m. while students were still present at the after-school program.

Police believe the man was waiting until the school was empty so he could steal items.

He fled the area but was located a short distance away by police and arrested.

A search of his person found several credit cards with various names, several sets of car keys, three watches and a number of tools.

The 48-year-old from Guelph is charged with break and enter, possession of stolen property, possessing break-in tools and unauthorized possession of a credit card.

He was held for a bail hearing on Thursday.
