Toyota donates $2M to Conestoga College for new smart factory

Conestoga College will be offering more to the future of Canada’s auto industry, thanks to a $2 million donation from Toyota.

The college said the funding from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. will be used to create the Toyota Smart Factory Learning Hub at its Cambridge campus on Fountain Street.

An email to 570 NewsRadio from the college explains how the learning hub “currently has one fully running automated line…TMMC’s donation will enable the college to build out three more lines, allowing an entire class to work on the lines at one time.”

The school said, “The plan is to have this integrated into several mechanical, electrical and electronics programs by fall 2026, from diploma to degree students.”

A statement from college president, John Tibbits, said the new smart factory will enhance technical abilities, and foster innovation and adaptability.

And it will serve as a hub for collaboration with TMMC, its affiliates, partners, and suppliers.

Tibbits called it a “transformative partnership.”

President of TMMC, Tim Hollander, adds, “By giving students access to state-of-the-art technology and real-world applications, we are helping cultivate the next generation of skilled professionals who will lead the future of manufacturing.”
