Third person arrested and vehicle seized in violent Guelph home invasion

Police are laying charges against a third suspect in connection with a serious home invasion in the Royal City late last week.

A 40-year-old man from Guelph is facing offences for break and enter, robbery, assault with a weapon and administering a noxious substance. Police also found a vehicle they believe was used in the robbery and seized it.

On Tuesday, officials laid similar charges against a 31-year-old man, including offences in connection with drug trafficking, after he was stopped by officers on patrol riding a stolen motorized scooter.

Guelph police were called to an apartment building near Watson Parkway North and Starwood Drive around 2 a.m. Sunday.

The male victim told police several people had entered his apartment and dragged him out of bed. He said he was sprayed with bear spray, and his wallet and a diamond ring were stolen. The suspects were caught on security camera with a vehicle while meeting a woman.

Minutes later, four people are seen running and then speeding away from the scene.

Officers were able to locate and arrest a 35-year-old woman a few hours after the incident.

The three accused are remaining in custody before their bail hearings. Police are continuing the investigation.
