Waterloo regional police have issued a public alert about a high-risk offender in Kitchener.
Kevin Koehler, 60, was released from custody on Oct. 16 and will now be living in the city.
Koehler was convicted of manslaughter in 2013, and according to police, he has an extensive history of violence.
Prior convictions include criminal negligence causing death, assault with a weapon, and assaulting police.
Koehler has to abide by several release terms, including staying away from past victims, refraining from alcohol and drugs, and obeying a nightly curfew of 11 p.m.
Police say they’ll be taking a “multi-faceted approach” to mitigate the perceived “significant” public safety risks posed by Koehler, like regular compliance checks.
Anyone who observes Koehler breaching any of his release terms is asked to call 911 and not approach him. Anonymous tips can be left with Crime Stoppers.
