There is a new face for the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony: Jason Doell has been announced as the group’s new executive director.
“The musicians and board have shown extraordinary resilience and have made great efforts in recent years, and together with our staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners, I am committed to building on that momentum,” he said in a release.
“With transparency, collaboration, and creativity, I believe we can chart a sustainable path forward that ensures the KWS continues to inspire audiences for generations to come.”
Doell says it is a privilege to be part of an orchestra that has had a profound impact on Waterloo Region, and is eager to help shape the future of the symphony.
Coming from a background of operations management in the music industry, with a focus on “growth through financial stability,” Doell will start his new job on Oct. 14.

In September 2023, the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony declared bankruptcy, due to the heavy financial impact of the COVID 19 pandemic.
Nearly a year ago, that bankruptcy was annulled, with the group this season, returning to some performances at Centre in the Square.
The new season, titled “Resurrection,” features 12 concerts and 17 performances at various venues across Waterloo Region.
