Waterloo Tech Week kicks off, showing the best advancements in local tech

The best innovation in local technology will be on full display as Waterloo Tech Week kicks off.

Over 60 decentralized and independently run events will be running across the city from Monday, September 8, to Thursday, September 11, showing some of the advancements in tech created here in Waterloo.

Jasmine Jiang, the co-director of Hack The North and an organizer for Waterloo Tech Week, said there have been a lot of cool things in Waterloo tech that people are not aware of.

“A lot of people like to do things silently,” said Jiang. “I think that is something that is a common sentiment about Waterloo. We just wanted to take this as an opportunity to highlight all the amazing things that are happening and encourage people to go out and find those opportunities as well.”

Those taking part include big companies like Google and Communitech, as well as smaller organizations and clubs associated with local universities. Some events include workshops, discussions, lunches, networking socials and demonstrations.

The official kickoff for Waterloo Tech Week will be held on Monday at the Google Building BRT2 in Kitchener.
