There may be a couple of weeks until the calendar year switches over to autumn, but for weather enthusiasts, meteorological summer wrapped up with August coming to a close.
Data at the University of Waterloo’s E.D. Soulis Memorial Weather Station shows, it was a warm one.
In fact, it was the hottest summer since 1955, and the fourth hottest in the history of local weather records (dating back to 1914).
Over June, July, and August there were 34 days above 30 C.
Looking at just August alone, the month switched from hot to cool around August 16, eventually wrapping up with a week of below average temperatures before back-to-school season.
Over the 31 days, the warmest it got was 32.6 C. It got as cold as 5 C.
It was also a very dry end to summer, with only 5 mm of rain in the first few weeks of August.
The total rainfall amount last month added up to 46.2 mm. The average amount of rainfall for August is closer to 66.5 mm.
