A local restaurant known for serving up authentic Caribbean cuisine in downtown Kitchener has announced it will be closing its doors next month.
Mark’s Caribbean Kitchen and Seafood shared the news on their social media channels on Tuesday, a decision they say did not come easily.
In a message shared with the community, Owner Mark Vaughan said that there have been efforts over the past few months to keep the restaurant open, including finding a new owner to “continue the vision”, but those efforts have been unsuccessful.
“With Indira Vaughan retiring and the changing landscape in the hospitality industry, we believe this is the right time to bring this chapter to a close.”
That message also included a thanks to “loyal patrons, friends and extended family” for their support.
“We are deeply grateful for your unwavering support, your smiles, and the memories we’ve shared – from weekday lunches to weekend celebrations. You’ve made Mark’s Caribbean Kitchen more than a restaurant – you’ve made it a community.”
The restaurant, located in downtown Kitchener on King Street East, has been in operation for seven years, with plans to permanently close its doors on Sept. 30.
In the meantime, those looking for their fill of rice and peas, jerk chicken or oxtail have been invited to visit the restaurant to “celebrate or final season together.”
