Police make arrest in alleged hate-motivated assault in Kitchener

Regional police officers made an arrest after arriving in the middle of an altercation being described as a “hate-motivated incident.”

They said it happened around 7:30, Thursday night, on Greenfield Avenue, near Fairway Road South and Wilson Avenue.

Officers found two males in a dispute, with a crowd of bystanders all around.

The officers separated the males, and put one under arrest.

Police said a 31-year-old man from Kitchener had assaulted the other male, while yelling out racial slurs.

The charges include assault, public intoxication, and breaching a release order.

Police are still investigating and would like to hear from more witnesses.
