WRDSB passes $966M ‘balanced’ budget

The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) passed its annual budget Monday.

Trustees say the budget is balanced, with operating revenues coming in at $864 million.

The total capital budget is $90 million. All together, the total number is just over $966 million.

“The funding will support school staff to build their capacity, and educators working directly with students to leverage high-yield instructional strategies to improve their literacy,” read a release.

Some key areas of spending focus include early literacy, mathematics, classroom safety, and mental health.

This includes $1.5 million put aside for the Math Achievement Action Plan, which includes staff training and digital math tools.

$2.9 million will focus on reading supports as part of the WRDSB’s Structured Literacy Multi-Year Plan.

“Looking ahead, we want to ensure that we are continuing to prioritize the long-term financial stability of the WRDSB, while remaining transparent and accountable for how we support student achievement and well-being.”
