Festival season arrives in Kitchener

Mark your calendars. Summer festival dates in Kitchener have been released, and it’s set to be a jam-packed couple of months.

A pair of events close out the month of June, with the Canadian Arab Festival on June 15, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Festival June 21-22.

July 1 marks a day of celebrations for Canada Day in Carl Zehr Square.

Juno award-winning Sloan, as well as Terra Lightfoot, a Tragically Hip tribute by Grace 2, and local country musician Rebekah Stevens, will provide musical performances throughout the day.

New Canadians will also be in the spotlight for a citizenship ceremony.

“A dazzling pyrotechnic show will close out the evening, lighting up the skies with light, colour and sound,” states a release from the City of Kitchener.

July continues with celebrating the classics. Cruising on King is back July 11, and Wayback Festival returns the last weekend of July.

Also in July, Momma’s Cookout, Sporas Palestine Festival, AfroVibes and the Ribfest & Craft Beer Show will take place.

On to August, highlights include KidsPark, the Downtown Paddle Palooza Pickleball Festival, Kitchener Blues Festival, and Caribana Ignite.

“This year, more than ever, we’ve seen the power of people coming together and celebrating the strength of our efforts to #SupportLocal!” Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic said in a press release. The summer events list provides something for all ages.

The summer festival season wraps up the weekend of September 6, after the kids are back in school. Endless Summer, the newest free outdoor music festival in the city, and the Mela Festival will close out a busy summer.

A full list of festival dates, times, and highlights can be found on the City of Kitchener’s website.
