Another local arrest made in nationwide child exploitation investigation

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Another arrest has been made in Waterloo Region relating to a nationwide investigation into the exploitation of children.

The probe is called Project Steel and aims to identify and apprehend those who prey on children.

Last month, Waterloo regional police said three arrests were made locally: a 43-year-old Kitchener man, 35-year-old Cambridge man, and 45-year-old Waterloo man. At the time, police said an unidentified 32-year-old man was also wanted for two counts of possession of child pornography.

On Wednesday, a 44-year-old Kitchener man was also arrested and is facing various child pornography charges.

None of the accused men have been named publicly.

In Ontario, Project Steel resulted in 31 victims being identified, 20 children safeguarded, almost 700 electronic devices seized, and more than 40 arrests.
