The next phase of reconstruction on a stretch of Ottawa Street in Kitchener will start next week.
According to the region, Ottawa Street will be closed between Mowat Boulevard and East of Westmount Road as of Monday, April 14.
That will include all through traffic until June.

It’s the first stage of the second phase of construction work, as stage 2 starts in July between Pinedale Drive and west of Westmount Road.
That second stage will run from until November and will result in Ottawa Street being closed between Pinedale Drive and west of Westmount Road.
Two-way traffic will be maintained on Westmount Road with lane restrictions during this time.
Pedestrians are asked to follow signage that will be in place at the site.

The entire project will see intersection improvements, including making them more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly.
There will also be new multi-use paths on Ottawa, upgraded underground infrastructure, and a reconfigured right turn lane from Fischer Hallman to Ottawa. This second phase of construction is expected to wrap up in November, with asphalt paving set to happen in 2026.
