Rangers overwhelm Firebirds to extend playoff series lead

The Kitchener Rangers swept the Flint Firebirds 6-1 on Saturday to extend their playoff lead to 2-0.
Jack Pridham would get the Rangers on the board first with two goals within 40 seconds of each other halfway through the first period. Nathan Aspinall would score for the Firebirds to bring the score to 2-1. Andrew Vermeulen buried his second goal of the playoffs to extend Kitchener’s lead 3-1 before the end of the period.
Carson Campbell opened the game up 4-1 at 15:21 in the second period. He would be kicked out afterwards with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Jacob Chromiak scored a wild goal from the centre of the ice on a dump pass when it hopped passed Flint goalie Nathan Day.
Trent Swick would add a sixth goal to the Rangers tally in the final five minutes of the third period. There were a total of eight misconducts in the period, 11 in the game (six for Kitchener and five for Flint).
Jack Pridham would earn first star honours with his four point night (two goals and two assists). Vermeulen (one goal) received second star and Jacob Chromiak (one goal and an assist) would take the third star.
The Rangers head to Michigan for game three on Tuesday and game four on Thursday.
If needed, they will return to the Kitchener Aud for game five on Friday.
