Suspects tried and failed to break into houses of worship

Would-be thieves tried, but failed, to break into two houses of worship in Kitchener and Cambridge.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service said the first instance happened around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday in Kitchener, around McIntyre Drive and Strasburg Road, near Bleams Road.

An hour later, another attempted break-in in Cambridge, around Old Mill Road and Meadow Creek Lane, near Dickie Settlement Road and Fountain Street South.

Those areas are about eight kilometres, or roughly ten minute drive, from each other.

Police said these were targeted break-in attempts, but neither building was actually entered.

Police have since specified that both locations were “temples,” though they said there’s no indication of a hate crime.

570 NewsRadio reached out for more information.

Investigators ask anyone who lives in those areas to check their security cameras for any images of people or vehicles.
