Upcoming Catholic school in Kitchener has possibly found its new name

By Justin Koehler

It’s set to be the home of 527 new students, with a new school in Kitchener’s Rosenburg neighbourhood potentially being named Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School.

It comes after a vote on Monday through Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) trustees, which saw five different options being brought forward. That included Divine Mercy, Guardian Angel, Light of Christ, Annunciation, and the recommended option, Holy Trinity.

A survey was given out to stakeholders with the school board prior to the meeting, giving a list of potential options along with bible verses, inspirations, and more as potential reasonings for each option.

Ultimately, 242 total surveys were collected, and Holy Trinity was shown to be the overwhelming favourite. The recommendation was then made from there to the board of trustees.

The new name is still not official, with the WCDSB saying it still needs to be formally reviewed and approved by the Diocese of Hamilton, Bishop Crosby, before an official public announcement can be made.

If it is approved, the new school is set to open up with its new name this fall, and welcome the first round of students in September.
