For the Kitchener-Waterloo Citizen of the Year, “Community and people-building have been the driving forces in my life.”
The Lion’s Club of Kitchener has given this year’s honour to the CEO of Activa, Tony Giovinazzo, who said he is truly honoured to receive the recognition.
A statement from the Club says Giovinazzo “is a silent champion and supporter behind many good causes.”
He’s described as “a generous, nonprofit trailblazer who has helped guide boards including the University of Waterloo, Family and Children’s Services, Sanguen Health Centre and Regional Police Services.”
“Under Tony’s leadership, Activa contributes both financial and human resources to many local organizations including KidsAbility, Habitat for Humanity, Hockey Helps the Homeless, the House of Friendship among many others.
The club also calls him “a long-time community enthusiast” and a member of the Kitchener Westmount Rotary Club
Giovinazzo extended his thanks to the Lion’s Club, adding, “having lived in the region for over half of my life, I am immensely proud to call it home.”
He’ll be presented his award at a ceremony set for May 27, at Conestoga College’s Waterloo Campus.
