Crashes, icy conditions close portions of Hwy. 401 in Drumbo, Woodstock

A mess of a drive for commuters on the west-end of Waterloo Region and beyond on Wednesday morning.

As of 6:30 a.m. two Highway 401 closures were in place in the Drumbo and Woodstock areas.

A crash involving multiple tractor-trailers closed the highway westbound from Cedar Creek Road through to Oxford Road 29. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) told 570 NewsRadio there were no injuries. That closure cleared shortly after 5 p.m.

On the eastbound side of the highway, there was movement through Drumbo, but a full closure in Woodstock.

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) reported Highway 401 eastbound was fully shut down as of 6:30 a.m. at Mill Street and Sweaburg Road for a collision.

Reports from the MTO indicate all eastbound lanes reopened just before 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Traffic callers to the 570 NewsRadio newsroom said there were very icy conditions in the area at the time.

A winter weather travel advisory was still in effect for Woodstock and Stratford Wednesday morning.

Environment Canada warned of “bursts of heavy flurries” and hazardous travel due to sudden weather changes throughout the morning commute.
