Hockey fans got a glimpse of the future of the Kitchener Rangers Sunday, as the Blueshirts wrapped up the regular season.
Six rookies took the ice against Guelph, with Avry Anstis making his OHL debut.
It was a chance to get the season sweep on the Guelph Storm, but ultimately the Rangers’ Highway 7 rival would steal the win, with a 2-0 final.
Despite the loss, 570 NewsRadio Colour Commentator Paul Fixter said the young players came off the ice with smiles on their faces.
“These are all guys that on a go-forward basis are going to be a big part of this hockey club, I think this is good experience to get some OHL play…even after a loss, they were happy to be a part of the hockey team today (Sunday).”
Ten of the regular Kitchener starters sat out for Game 68 of the regular season, gearing up for the post-season which starts this week.
The Rangers are taking on the Flint Firebirds for Round 1 of the best-of-seven playoff series.
Games 1 and 2 are in Kitchener on Friday and Sunday.
Both games can be heard live on 570 NewsRadio with Paul Fixter and Mike Farwell on the call.
