The Kitchener Rangers lost the final joust against their bitter rivals, the London Knights, on Tuesday, but still have two more opportunities this week to earn some ego-boosting wins before the playoffs.
The Rangers were outmatched in a tight contest, falling 2-1 to the Knights after three hard-fought periods.
The Knights opened the scoring in the first through forward Oliver Bonk, but Rangers captain Matthew Andonovski tied the contest in the second frame.
In the third period, London sealed their victory with a goal from Sam O’Reilly.
The Rangers have secured their place in the playoffs, and can no longer change their final standings in the Western Conference standings, but there is still plenty to play for with two remaining games against divisional opponents.
“There’s always reasons to play the game, individual stats, guys wanna get to ‘X’ number of goals, or ‘X’ number of points, or ‘X’ number of penalty minutes, and the team wants to get to 100 points,” said 570’s Colour Commentator Paul Fixter after the game. “Let’s go get it done guys.”
The Rangers will host the final regular season game at The Aud against the Owen Sound Attack on Friday before closing out the season in Guelph for a Highway 7 rivalry match against the Storm on Sunday afternoon.
